Oven Baked Spicy Chicken Shawarma

Hey guys!! Quick lil recipe here for you :) I've been trying to meal prep the past few weeks and wanted to try something different with my chicken... I was getting bored of the roasted chicken breasts recipes I was making. So I tried to spice it up and create my take on chicken shawarma.

Beware: This was pretty spicy for me! Jason didn't seem to think it was that spicy, but I def felt the heat!! So if you're not into so much spice, adjust the cayenne pepper in the marinade to your liking!

There is so much to love about this meal prep.. the prep time takes very little time (not a lot of chopping!) and the cooking is mostly done in the oven! But the flavor is huge & delicious! Making it something you'll look forward to eat (Sorry boring roasted chicken breast recipes....)

I ate this chicken a number of ways: I made a little chicken shawarma wrap with a pita and stuffed it alongside chopped iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, tzatziki & pickled peppers. I also made it into a quinoa bowl, using the same ingredients as the wrap but just on top of quinoa!

Hope you guys like it!

Oven Baked Spicy Chicken Shawarma

6 servings

4 large chicken breasts, halved

1 tbsp paprika

1 tbsp cumin

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp paprika

1 tbsp tumeric

1 tbsp cayenne pepper

3 large garlic cloves, minced

1/2 tbsp salt

1/2 tbsp black pepper

1/4 C extra virgin olive oil

1/2 tbsp olive oil for frying pan

1. Cut the chicken breasts in half, like you would if you butterflied them. Then place into a large bowl along with the paprika, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, turmeric, cayenne pepper, garlic cloves, salt, black pepper and olive oil. Mix well & let marinate in the fridge for at least 2 hours. (Note: Use gloves or utensils to mix, the turmeric can stain your hands/nails.. I found out the hard way lol)

2. Pre heat oven to 350 degrees F and place the chicken breasts on a large baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes and then flip & bake on the other side for another 15 minutes or until cooked through.

3. Remove the chicken breasts from the oven and slice each breast into thin pieces. Heat the 1/2 tbsp of olive oil in a large frying pan and fry all of the chicken slices for about 5-6 minutes, until the smaller bits get a lil crispy looking. And that's it!! Ready to enjoy in a pita or on top of a salad :)
